Fresh Fish Finder
Do you sell fish? The Great Lakes Sea Grant Network invites you to join Great Lakes Fresh Fish Finder. This webpage is designed for consumers to find locally sold fish, including bait fish, fish for stocking, consumption, and fee-fishing. Great Lakes Fresh Fish Finder will help producers access new markets and be easily searchable for interested consumers. This platform is managed by Sea Grant and is FREE to join and use! Each participating business will have their business name, location (optional), product available, website, contact information, and description included.


Getting involved in Aquaculture

Cornell Cooperative Extension | SPAT Program 
Suffolk Project in Aquaculture Training (SPAT) is an initiative by Cornell Cooperative Extension. This program was created to encourage members of the community to take an active role in restoring shellfish to the bays of Long Island, as well as learn about oyster aquaculture that is helping to rebuild native oyster populations. Volunteers and members are offered monthly workshops and provided with shellfish seed and necessary tools and supplies to grow their shellfish gardens either at their own waterfront or in the SPAT community garden. Shellfish E-Course (PDF)
The ‘Is Shellfish Farming Right For You?’ E-Course is a free, online, at your own pace course designed to highlight the basic requirements of starting a shellfish farm in New York. The course will go through leasing options, permitting, as well as basic farm operations and management.


Business Planning and Management Support 

SCORE Long Island
SCORE provides no cost business mentorship for businesses throughout New York. Through their mentorship process your business will be paired with a volunteer mentor to meet with 1 on 1, who has been successful in their career and is looking to help other businesses succeed. These mentors are able to assist with writing business plans, marketing, social media presence, patents and more. SCORE also offers free webinars and a library full of business resources on their website.  

Stony Brook Small Business Development Center
Stony Brook University has a Small Business Development Center that offers support to small businesses in New York. No cost, confidential counseling with NYS certified business counselors, on-site assistance at the business locations, workshops on key topics and areas of concern, as well as resources with information about market information, industry trends and sample business plans.
